WordPress For Blogging

Isn’t WordPress Just for Blogging?

It wasn’t that long ago that when someone mentioned “WordPress” the first thought that popped into most people’s head was – blog.  And it’s true that many people and organizations do use WordPress for blogging – in fact, when the platform started in 2003 it was purely for blogging.

Since then however, it has evolved into a full content management system offering thousands of themes and plugins to suit just about anyone. When WordPress is used to create a website, it won’t necessarily look the same as a WordPress blog site would look. Templates can be very slick, modern and appealing. In fact, there is a very good chance that some of your favourite websites are actually WordPress sites.

There are several advantages to using WordPress for your web design.

It’s Easy to Use

Need an update to your site? WordPress CMS is fairly simple to learn and use. You don’t have to be a programming expert to make basic changes to almost any part of your site.

Manage From Anywhere

Because it is web based, you can make changes to your site from any computer that has an Internet connection. Whether you are at the office or at your hotel room in Miami, if you have a change that you’d like to make, you are able to make it.

Does not require HTML or FTP Software

In the old days programs like Dreamweaver or Adobe Pagemaker were a must for website management. But with self-contained web based platforms such as WordPress, this is no longer the case. It is now possible to create content and directly upload files to your WordPress website.

WordPress and Search Engines

WordPress was designed with SEO in mind. The code behind this platform is very easy for search engine crawlers to find and read. Additionally WordPress offers built in tools for SEO as well as additional plugins that can help you optimize your site.

WordPress is Customizable

How will a WordPress site look? Any way you want it to. With such a huge array of themes (with new ones being designed every day) and plugins, your site can look however you’d like it to. You are limited only by what you can imagine.

It is Scalable

Perhaps you are a small business and only require a four page website. How much do you expect your business to grow over the next five years? And will four pages still be enough then? The good news about WordPress is that it is scalable. As your business grows and expands, you can add the necessary pages to your website without having to opt for a complete re-design.

You Can Include a Blog

Ok, maybe this one is obvious but did you know that sites which contain blogs have over 40% more traffic than sites that don’t. WordPress was built for blogging and with a WordPress website, you can automatically have a blog that is built into your site.

There are some great blogs that use WordPress as their platform, but WordPress has become so much more than simply a tool for bloggers. It is now the platform of choice for some pretty sophisticated looking websites as well.
