Debunking 10 SEO Myths Just like every other industry, SEO...
Today, website designers are shifting from the complex 3-D websites to web pages that have a flat and simple design. Why the sudden shift? There are a few factors that have influenced this transition. For a start, with the flow of information, users are constantly trying to filter the relevant and important ones especially on the smaller screen sizes. A flat and simple design ensures that users are not easily overwhelmed by the information overload.
Website designers and application developers are focusing more on offering tools that have limited features but highly focused on meeting the needs of the users. Gone are the days when designers and developers added a number of features just to increase the price tag even though some of them were not relevant to the app or website.
Users are focusing a lot more on the content that the website or app has to offer as opposed to how complex the interface is. With new technologies and devices in the market, people quickly get fascinated by what can be done to enhance creativity. However, these complex features tend to make the interface too distractive.
Flat user interfaces are more easily made responsive than the numerous complex styles available in the market. With a minimal design, it is easy to reduce the page load speed by making sure there are minimal elements on each page. However, responsive design doesn’t mean that the aesthetic must be flat and minimal. However, it is just easier to achieve a responsive design with a flat UI.
Seek inspiration from designers as well as artists who are well known for their simplicity. You can look out for designers such as Wim Crouwel who were very creative in the pre-PC era. You’ll be surprised at how effective their designs were.
Take breaks as often as you can. Whenever you take a break, it’s a good opportunity to recharge. You are going to see the project with “new eyes” when you come back and it’s going to enhance your productivity.
Make sure you have evaluated your design concepts on different screen sizes to make sure they work before you proceed. Remember that the scale of objects on the screen plays a very important role on how the overall design turns out to be. Confirm that the elements work perfectly well regardless of the screen size.
Always look for elements that are relevant and required by the user. Try and cut or simplify the design if there are too many elements that the user will probably never use or understand. Don’t get attached to any feature. If you’ve put so much work into it, try and edit it to fit the needs of the user.
Use contract to make the elements stand out. For instance, if you are using a white layout, make sure all the interactive elements have some color. If the design has large headlines which are all on lowercase, make the links small and uppercase.
