If you’re involved in online business, you’ve probably heard of the term “link juice”. What does it mean, exactly? It’s a slang term that refers to the power behind a particular link, whether it’s from another website or within your own site.
When it comes to links, quality trumps quantity. Even if you have many sites linking back to yours, there might not be any link juice behind them if they are not considered quality sites by the search engines. In fact, your site may even end up being penalized if you have a high number of poor quality links.
A single link from an established, well-known website has more “juice” than a dozen links from poor quality sites.
– If the link is placed alone in the side bar or footer as opposed to being placed within the text context. This implies that the link may be a paid ad. If it’s located within the context of the page, however, it was probably put there by the webmaster and is therefore more relevant and carries more juice.
– Whether the link is located high up on the page or down below. The higher its position, the more weight it carries.
– How much juice that particular page actually offers. Quality sites that are considered relevant and important to the search engines carry the most link juice.
– Whether the link has the “nofollow” attribute to it. If it does, then there is little juice behind it, if any at all.
– An increase in rankings in search engine results
– The chance to be distinguished as an authority in your industry
– More targeted traffic coming to your site
– The potential for more customers if you’re running an online store
– The chance to develop new partnerships and better relationships
Of course, in order for all of this to happen, you will need to get important websites to link to you willingly, and without the nofollow tag.
– Start a blog if you don’t already have one and create informative posts. Even if you don’t get very many readers right away, you should still write on a new topic at least once a week. In time, you will have an archive of searchable posts, and more people will find their way to your blog. As long as the posts are helpful and informative, they will be willing to follow you and share the posts.
– Leave helpful comments on other people’s blogs, particularly those that allow you to provide a link to your site in your posts. You can also participate in forums or message boards within your niche. Provide others with information they will find helpful and they will be more likely to visit your site and link back to you.
– Work on on-site SEO. Add the highest quality content possible on your site and don’t go overboard with keywords. How can you expect others to link to your site if it isn’t good?
These are all essential techniques for getting more links juice with search engines.
